Clovis meal program served thousands; staff report delivery drivers hired and rising participation

City staff told the Senior Services Committee that the Hillcrest meal program has grown since it began in December, with total meals and participants rising.
Barbara Reagan reported the program has served 4,688 total meals last month across congregate and home-delivered services. Since the program’s start in December the committee heard that 434 distinct seniors have used congregate services; last month alone 282 seniors used the congregate meal site. Reagan said about 90 homebound seniors continue to receive meals on a steady basis.
The committee also heard that drivers proved difficult to hire early in the program but that three drivers have now been hired and will begin learning routes in the coming week. Reagan said staff continue to evaluate and optimize routes after the move from the old senior center to Hillcrest.
On donations and finances, staff reported typical daily donations range from about $250 to $300 and that the non metro area agency on aging is working on next year’s budget. For meals, the center serves lunch 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; suggested donation for those 60 and older is $4, and a flat cost of $8 applies for those under 60.
Committee members asked for and received counts of meals and participants; no formal policy changes were taken.
