The Marshall County Board of Commissioners voted to reimburse the Town of Culver $50,000 from the county public-safety grant fund for radios purchased for fire and EMS services. Culver’s town manager, Kevin, told commissioners the total radio purchase was about $83,012.64 and that costs are shared with Union Township on a roughly 50/50 basis for fire and EMS; police costs remain the town’s responsibility. The reimbursement will flow to the Town of Culver, which is responsible for handling any suballocations with Union Township.
Commissioners said the grant program was set up to support volunteer fire departments and emergency services to meet increased equipment and OSHA requirements. The motion to reimburse Culver was made and seconded and carried unanimously. Auditor staff indicated the county has remaining special-project funds (roughly $20,000–$26,000) in the public-safety grants pool and that the City of Plymouth had not yet submitted its request.
Commissioners asked county staff to prepare a summary at a future meeting showing who has received funds from the public-safety grant program and the remaining balance; staff said firm numbers and documentation would be available at the next meeting.
