Parks board approves DFW Pug Rescue's Pug O'Ween for Oct. 26 at Heritage Park

The Flower Mound Parks Board approved a request May 1 from DFW Pug Rescue to hold its annual Pug O'Ween event on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025, at Heritage Park in Flower Mound. The board’s approval, which permits vendors and fee-based participation, passed by unanimous roll call.

Bertha Sundiano (fund development director, DFW Pug Rescue) told the board the nonprofit is one of the region's largest pug rescues and plans a family-friendly event with sponsors, vendors, photo opportunities, a costume contest and activities such as "pug painting." Sundiano said the rescue typically sells wristbands for participation in activities and expects to secure sponsors; she said the rescue had about 125 pugs in care in March (38 recent intakes; 21 adoptions in the same period) and more than 200 volunteer fosters in the metro area.

Town staff noted that the Parks Board has authority to approve events that charge fees or solicit donations and said organizers must coordinate vendors and site logistics with staff ahead of the event. After a brief presentation and questions from the board, a motion to approve the Pug O'Ween request passed by unanimous vote; the recorded roll-call responses in the transcript include Chris Chastain, Holly Royer, Rick Kenyon, Ashish Purry, Jennifer Marchevsky and Doug Graves voting in the affirmative.

Next steps: organizers should coordinate details with Parks staff (vendors, site plan, insurance and any required permits). The board asked staff to ensure standard event management requirements are met before the event.
