Stayton’s mayor announced on July 21 that Councilor Bauer resigned for family reasons, creating a council vacancy. The mayor said residents interested in the position should submit interest via email and that the council — not the mayor alone — will select an appointee by consensus.
Councilors discussed whether to set a deadline for applications; the mayor proposed Sept. 30. Councilor O'Rourke noted that an appointee would serve only until the end of December 2026 and would need to run for election if they wished to remain on the council beyond that date.
Ending: Staff will publish information on how to apply (citygovernment@staytonoregon.gov was offered as a contact address) and will return the applications to council for review; the council set Sept. 30 as a proposed deadline for submissions.
