The Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners on Oct. 9 approved a request from a private property owner to vacate an unused strip of county right‑of‑way adjacent to Richard Lane Road.
Applicant Joe Lambert told the board the right‑of‑way "really has no use for the public," that neighboring parcels are not landlocked and that his family sought the vacation for privacy and noise abatement. Lambert said a builder previously cleared about 90 feet of the right‑of‑way near his home, increasing traffic noise, and he asked the commission to approve vacation of an additional portion to preserve tree cover and privacy.
County departments reviewed the request and reported no objections. County staff said the vacation would not remove access to any adjacent parcel and that drainage ditches in the area were located on private property rather than on the right‑of‑way being considered.
Chairman Kerry Smith moved to approve the vacation and, after no public comment was offered at the hearing, the board approved the request.
