County updates on flood mitigation projects, receives state Smart Fund IGA and budget amendment

County staff reported it had received delayed reimbursements from the U.S. Forest Service totaling $3.4 million and smaller congressionally directed reimbursements; two outstanding reimbursements from NRCS remain, totaling about $2 million. Staffing shortages in federal grant offices were cited as the primary reason for the slow reimbursements.
Supervisors asked about timing and the risk of exhausting local match dollars; staff said some work would be covered by NRCS construction funding and district dollars where necessary and noted the county is budgeting contingencies for next fiscal year. Supervisors discussed the need to press congressional and federal partners if the Protect grant approvals stall.
Board action: Supervisors Vasquez (mover) and Ontiveros (seconder) approved the AZ Smart Fund IGA and budget amendment by voice vote.
