Governing board approves $150,000 increase to HVAC maintenance contract for emergencies and repairs
Summary
The Chandler Unified School District governing board approved a $150,000 increase to an existing state contract with EMCOR Services for HVAC maintenance and emergency repairs, raising the estimated contract total to $750,000 for the fiscal year to cover planned replacements and a contingency for unexpected failures.
The Chandler Unified School District governing board on April 23 approved a $150,000 increase to the district's state contract with EMCOR Services for HVAC maintenance, repairs and emergency services, bringing the fiscal-year estimated total to $750,000.
The district presented the increase as a fiscal safeguard to cover pending replacements and unplanned failures as temperatures rise. "Ensuring continued reliability of these systems is essential to maintaining operational efficiency, student and staff comfort and the safety of our learning environment," a district staff member identified in the meeting as Mrs. Berry said while explaining the request.
What the increase covers
District staff itemized several known projects and an emergency contingency included in the proposed increase: a boiler burner replacement at the high-school pool (estimated at about $5,000), chiller wire-harness replacement at Fry (about $40,000), a secondary pump variable-frequency drive replacement at Jacobson (about $6,000), secondary pump EMS repairs at Rice (about $5,000) and a $94,000 contingency to address emergency repairs or unexpected equipment failures.
