Council extends Boca Raton Community Redevelopment Agency legal existence to 2043
Summary

The City Council unanimously adopted Resolution 62‑2025 on April 22 to extend the legal existence of the Boca Raton Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) through Sept. 30, 2043.
Staff explained that the CRA was created in 1980 to lead downtown redevelopment and that state law requires municipal action to extend a CRA’s term or let it sunset. City staff told the council the action preserves the city’s ability to implement its long‑term redevelopment strategy. Staff also noted that Senate Bill 1242, then pending in the Florida Legislature, would have limited future extensions unless taken by May 1; adopting the resolution before possible statutory change preserves the CRA’s status.
There is no fiscal impact attached to the resolution. Council adopted the extension 5–0.
Why it matters: Extending the CRA maintains the city’s redevelopment authority for downtown planning and financing tools that support capital projects, economic development, and private redevelopment partnerships.
