County counsel reports $1.02 million opioid settlement approved at prior closed session

FRESNO — Fresno County counsel reported on Oct. 7 that at a Sept. 23 closed session the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a combined settlement of the county’s claims against eight opioid manufacturers.
County counsel said the settlement involved manufacturers named in the transcript as Alvogen, Amnio, Apotex, Hikma, Indivior, Mylan, Sun and Zitis and that Fresno County is expected to receive approximately $1,020,000 as part of a national prescription-opioid litigation identified in the record as the “INRAE national prescription opioid litigation.” Counsel said the board authorized the chairman to sign the settlement documents and that finalized agreements would be available through the county counsel’s office.
The report to the board said no further closed-session report-outs would be expected following the Oct. 7 meeting. The settlement was recorded in the minutes as approved by a 5–0 vote on Sept. 23.
