Superintendent and trustees share school updates: state championships, curriculum review and traffic concerns

During the public portion of the Pueblo County School District 70 meeting, the superintendent and board members provided several informational updates about district activities and community engagement.
The superintendent noted that softball teams from Pueblo West and Pueblo County are competing in state championships in Aurora and that the district’s bands qualified for competitions in Grand Junction. The district will have a booth at the Riverwalk “Fright Night” community event, led by district staff, the superintendent said.
The district has placed two math curriculum options on public display and plans to pilot them from December through April; the superintendent invited public review and comment during the display period. The superintendent also acknowledged difficulties with school pickup lines at Skyview Middle School and said staff are brainstorming solutions that will require coordination with county roads and bridges.
Board member Kathy Holland described a traffic crash she observed on Highway 50 and urged caution when making quick left-turn decisions at a particular exit. Another board member reported that new pickleball courts are open at PV and said the district is seeking additional courts at North Mesa and Beulah next year.
