Pueblo West wrestling team and dance team present plans for out-of-state competition

Coaches for Pueblo West High School presented two separate travel requests and program updates to the Pueblo County School District 70 board during the meeting.
Wrestling coach Fidel described plans to continue the program’s tradition of attending the Garden City, Kansas tournament and to add a trip to the Rio Rancho tournament, which invites teams from Arizona, Utah, Texas and Colorado. Fidel said the district targeted Rio Rancho this season because the roster fills a full lineup and the team aims to avoid forfeits in team competition and to measure progress ahead of regionals and state.
Emily Perkins, the new head coach of the Pueblo West High School varsity dance team, told the board the team earned a bid to Nationals in Orlando. She said the team of 10 dancers plans to travel Feb. 5–9 to compete in hip-hop and pom divisions. Several parents plan to travel as chaperones, Perkins said, and the competition package includes park admission for students once competition concludes.
Neither coach announced a formal board vote during their presentations in the public record; the board heard the requests and asked no recorded follow-up conditions. The district will process any required travel authorizations and parent chaperone confirmations through its usual channels if and when formal approvals are submitted.
