Council approves engineering contract to continue Lake Bluff Drive extension permitting and design

The council voted Oct. 21 to authorize engineering work with the city’s consultant to pursue permitting and design for an extension of Lake Bluff Drive linking North Lake Drive and Yosemite Drive.
Director Jason Herzog told council the team had worked with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the city’s engineer on permitting strategy across wetlands and stream corridors in the project area. Staff estimated a conceptual construction cost around $2,000,000 and noted typical design/engineering would run about 10 percent of construction (roughly $200,000). Herzog said the engineering proposal under consideration from a local consultant (Rupert Milke) could be completed for about $90,000 under the current scope and would include permit application, wetlands coordination and design refinements.
Why it matters: The extension aims to provide a more appropriate collector street serving new and planned development in northeastern Oconomowoc and to reduce traffic pressure on neighborhood streets. Aldermen debated environmental impacts and wildlife crossing risks but several members supported advancing engineering to better quantify roadway design and stormwater mitigation.
Outcome: Council approved the engineering services authorization by roll call. Staff will proceed with permit applications and detailed engineering work to return with construction plans and final cost estimates.
