The Common Council voted Oct. 21 to approve a preliminary plat for Weston Lake Acres, a proposed 109‑unit residential subdivision at the southwest corner of Marks Road and Redland Road.
The plat, submitted by the applicant following a long‑range concept previously approved by council, would add 83 single‑family lots, 26 duplex units and an eight‑unit multifamily parcel. City planning staff said the plan increases the city’s single‑family share toward a previously adopted land‑use objective of roughly a 65% single‑family to 35% multi‑family mix.
Lot sizes vary across the plat; duplex lots are shown around 12,600 square feet and many single‑family lots are between 8,700 and 15,000 square feet. The plat preserves environmentally sensitive areas and dedicates right‑of‑way for a collector street; public works staff said the 100‑foot right‑of‑way shown will accommodate the planned collector.
Applicant and plan commission: William Gentle of HomePath Financial, the applicant, told council the duplex rows will be built as duplex ownership units and that multifamily parcels will be configured as condominium‑style ownership. The Plan Commission recommended the preliminary plat to council and council approved it by roll call.
Ending: Staff will continue engineering and plat review to prepare final plats and utility plans, and the council’s approval advances the project to detailed design and permitting.
