Gibson County engineering staff asked commissioners to approve a financial commitment letter so the county can apply for the state's Community Crossings grant for improvements to Tooltree Drive. Engineering described high traffic volumes on the corridor (about 11,000 vehicles per day in places), the project scope and the competitive nature of this year's grant round.
Staff presented a project total of roughly $2,000,885.82 and said the county's match would be approximately $1,000,885.86 (about 50% for the presented project configuration). The engineering superintendent said the county would provide the remaining match from identified local sources and asked the board to approve the letter so the application can be submitted when the grant opens Oct. 1.
Commissioners approved the financial commitment letter and directed staff to prepare the cost estimate and match documentation. Staff cautioned the grant pool and submission competition would be intense; the board recorded the motion as approved with ayes recorded, but no roll-call tally was given in the meeting transcript.
