Teton County commissioners approve letter endorsing reauthorization of the Great American Outdoors Act

The Teton County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously Sept. 2 to approve a letter to the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources expressing support for reauthorizing the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA).
The letter, read into the record by a county attorney, thanks Committee Chair Bruce Westerman, Ranking Member Jared Huffman and members of the committee for choosing Grand Teton National Park for an oversight hearing and urges continued federal support for public‑land infrastructure and recreation opportunities. The draft highlights local partnerships with federal agencies and notes that Teton County is largely public land, citing Grand Teton National Park, the National Elk Refuge and portions of Bridger‑Teton and Shoshone National Forests.
"We strongly support reauthorizing the Great American Outdoor[s] Act," the letter states in part, noting that the 2020 law provided needed resources for road and facility maintenance and allowed public‑land managers to plan projects without the uncertainty of annual appropriations.
Commissioner Probst moved to approve the letter as read into the record with standard formatting adjustments for transmission. Commissioner Carlman seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
The board decided to send the letter promptly so it will be available to committee staff during the oversight hearing in Grand Teton National Park later that week.
