Residents praise new inclusive playground, raise concerns about senior services and tax assessments during Fluvanna public comment

Concerns about Java senior services Faith Stewart, who described long-term volunteer work with the local senior program, said the nonprofit Java Fluvanna Center (referred to in comments as Java) has had difficulty keeping staff and that program funding and eligibility procedures have been confusing for seniors. Stewart said Java brought benefits but also turnover and that some residents who need services do not qualify under program rules; she urged the public body to review gaps in access and thanked staff who have helped with supplies and outreach.
Property assessment and fairness at Zions Crossroads Two residents, Don Reiner and Patty Reiner, urged the board to review commercial property assessments after complaints about large differences in assessed land values at Zions Crossroads versus nearby subdivisions. They cited a 39.916-acre parcel reportedly owned by amazon.comservicesllc and argued that similar industrial parcels nearby were assessed at much higher per-acre values; they asked the county to audit assessments for fairness and consistency. Patty Reiner also emphasized that many lake-area residents are elderly and on fixed incomes and asked the board to consider that in decisions affecting property taxes.
Other public remarks Speakers also thanked schools for recent events and student engagement, and several residents commented on school performance and attendance at recent candidate forums. A number of attendees urged civility after a contentious planning commission meeting on a separate topic and asked the board to remind the public that all residents have the right to speak.
