Public commenter urges county backing for Stockton Bridge Community Hub, cites private fundraising

During the public‑comment period on Sept. 16, Dee Jones identified herself as “passionate entrepreneur and visionary” and described work to launch the Stockton Bridge Community Hub.
Jones said she collected more than 100 signatures and delivered them to David LeGrand. She said foundations are “trying to pour at least $4,000,000 into our community hub already,” that Independent Bank has a banker on the proposed hub’s board, and that the bank helped another community organization secure $5,000,000 in funding. “I'll be coordinating,” she said, and asked the county to consider aligning policies and operations and to advocate for state funding for the hub when a state budget is considered.
Jones said she plans to invite Commissioner Carol Hennessy to sit on the hub’s steering committee and that the hub intends to work with six community organizations and Annette Vandenberg, identified as executive director of the West Grama Organization. She said the hub would serve residents of Kent County and would be open to broad community input from elected officials, unhoused residents and others. “I like to hear everybody’s feedback because this is gonna be the better for the community,” Jones said.
Her remarks were offered as public comment; no action or formal response from the committee was recorded in committee minutes.
