Gonzales Youth Council reports meetings with state senator, upcoming events and community tour

Members of the Gonzales Youth Council presented a series of updates to the city council about recent meetings and upcoming activities.
Commissioners met commissioners from the Greenfield Youth Council on Oct. 7 for a meet-and-greet that covered motivations for joining youth councils, meeting procedures and recruitment practices. On Oct. 9 the council held its second meeting to discuss SMART goals and potential community partnerships. On Oct. 16 the youth council met with State Senator Laird, who asked about the students' reasons for joining and indicated interest in supporting their concerns.
The youth council announced its next meeting is scheduled for Oct. 23 and said new members will tour the community center. Members also reviewed homecoming-week activities, including dress-up days, a rally and a parade route that will go down Fifth Street and around to the schools; the parade was scheduled from noon to 12:45 p.m. one council member said.
The council suggested occasionally sharing school news with the city council and noted the youth council will post parade and route information on social media to help residents follow the event.
