Supervisors approve awards and change orders for multiple county road projects

During the meeting staff said some roads will be bid together because they are simpler and are easier to manage as a single contract; other roads (Clifford, Jordan and Ballard) will be bid as separate projects so the county can employ two or three contractors simultaneously to keep work moving. Supervisors asked staff to prepare contract documents, advertise the adjusted bid packages and return executed change orders for signatures.
Board discussion also covered material choices and a soil-cement pilot on Cannon Road and Brooksville that staff said had performed well in a recent trial; officials described the product cost (about $55,000 material estimate for a pilot) and a contractor service bid of roughly $29,000 for installation on a prior job. Staff said the county will supply shaping and paving labor where schedules permit.
