Montgomery County Board of Education holds executive session, then approves personnel changes

The Montgomery County Board of Education met July 22, 2025, in Training Room 1 and, after amending the agenda to add an executive session on personnel, approved multiple personnel actions including certified and classified personnel recommendations, a personnel-addendum amendment to reflect a voluntary retirement, team approvals, a reclassification of the director of early learning position to director of pre-K, and new executive director job descriptions.

Board attorney Powell advised the board before the executive session that any closed discussion of personnel must be narrowly stated. "The executive session ... regarding personnel matters, it would need to be regarding good name and character," Powell said, and the board amended the motion to specify that purpose. After returning to open session, the board considered and voted on multiple personnel items recommended by Superintendent Dr. Berg. The board approved an amendment to the personnel addendum reflecting a voluntary retirement (vote recorded as 5 yes) and approved classified personnel recommendations (vote recorded as 4 yes, 1 no). The board also approved team appointments unanimously, reclassified the job description for the director of early learning to director of pre-K unanimously, and approved job descriptions for executive director of special education, executive director of federal programs, executive director of student support, and executive director of student wellness and culture unanimously.
