AJ Wykoff sworn in as Boone County student board representative; plans for SSAC expansion

Honorable Judge Schranback administered the oath to AJ Wykoff as the Boone County Schools’ student board representative for the coming year. Wykoff, a senior and member of Conner High School’s track and cross-country teams, said he was elected by his peers to represent students as a nonvoting member of the Boone County Board of Education.
Wykoff said one of his goals is to strengthen the Student Superintendent’s Advisory Council (SSAC), which the district established in 2002 as a venue for student voice. He told the board that his experience in the Governor’s Scholars program inspired him to make SSAC “a place where some of the brightest minds in our county can grow and learn from each other,” and to support the high-school committees formed in recent years around topics such as mental health. Wykoff said he will preside over SSAC at the start of the school year and will “do my best to make the Boone County Schools better for you and your students.”
Superintendent Jordan Haswalt and board members gathered for a commemorative photo after the swearing-in. The student representative role is nonvoting and is intended to channel student input to the board through monthly SSAC reports and the student-voice portions of board agendas.
