German Village Commission continues appeal over window replacement after public‑health lead exposure claim

German Village Commission members continued an appeal Aug. 6 from a Stewart Avenue homeowner seeking to overturn a June denial that would have allowed replacement of 13 historic windows after a Columbus Public Health case manager linked a child’s elevated blood lead level to disturbed paint around window sills.

The applicant, Julie Bushel Sharma, told the commission she and her family moved into the house about a year ago and that Columbus Public Health’s case manager concluded dust from recently disturbed interior window sills was the most likely source of her daughter’s lead exposure. Sharma said contractors told her the interior sills could not be taken off site for remediation and that, because her young child plays around the windows constantly, she prefers full replacement rather than in‑place mitigation.
