Council receives update on YMCA natatorium completion; contractor Carly Nelson mobilizing in late July

OSKALOOSA, Iowa — City staff told the Oskaloosa City Council on July 21 that the YMCA natatorium completion project has moved into active construction planning under a mandatory completion contract with Carly Nelson.

Staff said the city and contractor have secured building permits, insurance and bonds and that prime subcontractors for bid packages 1–8 have signed contracts. A submittal-exchange process is established to coordinate product data, shop drawings and delivery schedules. Weekly construction meetings began July 17 and will continue; those are mandatory for contractors currently working on site and optional for subcontractors scheduled later in the sequence.

On-site preparations reported include a temporary access road, construction fencing, and the contractor’s trailer and foreman presence. Peterson Construction (bid package 1) is scheduled to mobilize the week of July 28 and begin work by Aug. 1. Western Specialties is scheduled to follow during the week of Aug. 4 for interior wall and prep work.
