Commission hears economic development update; approves grant recommendations and inland-port incentive triggers

David Johnson, Iron County economic development director, told the commission on Monday that the county is seeing “momentum” from recent industry activity including a Hy Plastics facility at Silver Hills Industrial, a forthcoming American Pacific (formerly Weco) expansion he described as a $100,000,000 capital investment, and several companies that have committed to locate in the county.
Johnson said the county will focus more on helping the companies that have committed “cross the finish line” and will share dates for groundbreakings and ribbon cuttings once confirmed. He also reported Cedar City’s Main Street ranking and local business growth examples.
The commission consented to a set of economic development actions. By motion, commissioners approved the Iron County Economic Development Advisory Board’s recommendations for use of the county’s annual $200,000 Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity (GOEO) allocation.
