The Board of Parks Commissioners on Aug. 7 voted to accept the annual report from the Moore Lindsey Historical House Museum, which marked its 50th year and reported increased visitors and new grant-funded strategic-planning work.
Museum leadership told commissioners the museum opened to the public in 1975 and recently received a grant from the State Historical Society to support updated strategic planning; the museum said it will move from five-year strategic cycles to an annual review process with the state grant support. The report shows visitation and program participation rose about 22% year over year, with roughly 1,998 visitors in the reported year.
The museum also reported a $20,000 grant from the Arts Council (up from $20,000 previously) and a $2,000 sponsorship from OEC, with a pending application to increase OEC support to $10,000. The museum said projected budget increases mainly reflect programming and contract-labor needs if the museum expands classes and events.
Commissioners asked questions about a miscellaneous expenses line item; museum staff said the larger miscellaneous expense likely reflected seasonal gift-shop inventory purchases that occur in multi-year blocks. After brief questions, a commissioner moved to accept the report; the motion passed by voice vote and the report will be forwarded to the City Council.
