Commission accepts $25,000 donation for Firehouse Arts Center jewelry-studio renovation

The City of Norman Board of Parks Commissioners on Aug. 7 voted to accept a $25,000 in-kind and grant-supported gift to renovate the Firehouse Arts Center jewelry studio.
Staff said the Kirkpatrick Family Fund is providing grant funds that, together with a $10,000 match from the Firehouse Arts Center, will fund up to $25,000 in renovation work to expand and reconfigure the jewelry studio into a larger South Studio space. The change is intended to double usable teaching space so classes can increase from roughly eight to 10–12 students, according to the presentation.
Staff noted longtime instructor Elise Bogart will donate tools and a portion of her jewelry library to the Firehouse as part of the project. Renovation work described in the meeting includes shelving and storage reconfiguration to move supplies out of the children's studio and create dedicated bench space for metalsmithing classes.
A commissioner moved to accept the donation and the motion passed on a voice vote. Staff said the work will become city property and will remain part of the Firehouse Arts Center facilities.
Commissioners and staff praised the Firehouse and its volunteers for ongoing fundraising and grant partnerships; staff indicated the department will continue reviewing opportunities for future exterior improvements at the facility.
