Council hears recreation update: volunteer-led youth soccer and silver jubilee debrief

Council members heard updates about local recreation and the recent Silver Jubilee festival, including a volunteer-led youth soccer program and plans for an after-action review of the festival.

A group of parents and volunteers will begin informal soccer sessions at the city park on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., running from Aug. 20 through Sept. 24. Suggestions to increase downtown activity included cross-promotion (a passport-style promotion) to drive attendees to both park and downtown locations, and the council emphasized that more volunteers are needed to run events consistently.
