MNPS amends policy 4.301 to clarify TSSAA terminology and homeschool participation

The Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools Board unanimously approved amendments to policy 4.301 to align athletic-territory language with district terminology and clarify homeschool student participation rules.
Board staff said the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) uses the term "territory" while the district refers to a student's "school zone." Staff proposed the policy change to avoid confusion across private and public schools. Dr. Severe explained the edit was intended so "they can use that as sort of a capture of private schools and public schools under 1 sort of terminology."
Staff also reported they added a clear statement on homeschool participation: "homeschool students shall be permitted to participate at the school to which they are zoned," to avoid ambiguity if TSSAA regulations refer to "territory" rather than the district's "zone."
After brief discussion the board moved and seconded approval; the vote was unanimous.
