Hamilton County utility district updates: billing setup, wastewater treatment training and water-main tests

Hamilton County Regional Utility District staff reported on Aug. 11 that they are implementing new billing software, clarifying contractor responsibilities and preparing infrastructure pieces for service startup.
The district’s general manager said staff are “working with TRICO and learning the billing software and getting through the details to get all that set up for us so we can set up accounts and all those things, which is going really well.” The general manager added the district planned a meeting the same afternoon with Trico and Citizens to “further clarifying duties between those 2 contractors.”
On service provisioning, the general manager said Indiana American Water is no longer in the district’s system except as a wholesale water supplier.
The district’s engineer reported the wastewater treatment plant is completing training and should be ready for start-up in August, with a couple of additional trainings to occur once flows begin. Work on lift stations was given a timeline: lift stations 4 and 5 were planned to be ready for start-up on Sept. 1, and lift stations 1 and 2 on schedule for October. The engineer said the water main serving locations south of 230 Sixth Street (a 20-inch main) has been flushed and is being chlorinated, with a bacteriological/backflow test to occur this week and next; “once that's complete, then all of the water main is ready for service,” the engineer said.
Board members asked about the Indiana National Guard’s work on an unspecified related site; the engineer said there was no new update. There were no substantive public comments recorded during the meeting.
The board did not take new formal actions related to these operational updates at the meeting; the items were reported for board information and will be tracked for follow-up as work proceeds.
