Williamson County commissioners approve committee assignments in special Aug. 21 meeting

Williamson County commissioners met in a special-called session Aug. 21 and approved a slate of committee appointments by unanimous voice vote, chairing the session with a light agenda focused solely on elections and committee assignments.
“In the absence of a gavel, we, we're using Diane's coffee cup,” Commissioner Brian Bether said as he opened the meeting and moved into the first agenda item: committee appointments.
The commission approved appointments to the Budget Committee (Chaz Morton, chair; Guy Carden; Betsy Hester; Paul Webb; County Mayor Rogers Anderson) and the Purchasing and Insurance Committee (Sean Iolo; Megan Guffey; Greg Lawrence; Steve Smith; County Mayor Rogers Anderson) after motions and seconding from commissioners. Motions were made and seconded as follows: the Budget Committee motion was made by Tom Tunnicliffe and seconded by Steve Smith; the Purchasing and Insurance motion was made by Ricky Jones and seconded by Drew Torres. Both passed by voice vote.
The commission then assigned members to internal county commission committees and approved the Human Resources, Parks and Recreation, Rules, and Steering committee rosters by unanimous voice votes. The Human Resources committee membership approved was Judy Herbert, Jennifer Mason, Greg Sanford, Tom Tunnicliffe, Bill Petty, and Brian Bether (motion by Greg Sanford; second by Tom Tunnicliffe). The Parks and Recreation committee was approved with Lisa Hayes, Greg Lawrence, Mary Smith, Drew Torres, Megan Guffey, and Sean Aiello (motion by Drew Torres; second by Greg Sanford). The Rules committee roster approved was Ricky Jones, Guy Carden, David O'Neil, Barb Sturgeon, Chaz Morton, and Brian Clifford (motion by Megan Guffey; second by Drew Torres). The Steering committee was approved with Betsy Hester, Pete Stressor, Paul Webb, Chris Richards, Matt Williams, and Steve Smith (motion by Bill Petty; second by Drew Torres). Each vote was recorded as passing unanimously by voice vote.
Clerk Jamie Whitby reported attendance for the special meeting: “We have 19 present, 5 absent, commissioner Aiello, commissioner Hayes, commissioner Lawrence, commissioner Richards, and commissioner Mary Smith absent,” reflecting the quorum and absences for the session.
Commissioner Jennifer Mason asked whether the newly adopted committee assignments take effect immediately or only after the steering committee meets. Chair Bether responded, “As of now,” and the exchange included a clarification that some members would remain on prior committees until the steering committee meets to finalize transitions.
Because this was a special-called meeting, the chair noted no other business could be conducted; the meeting concluded after the committee votes and brief comments. Commissioner Betsy Hester offered a brief congratulation to Commissioner Ricky Jones for 50 years of service before the meeting was adjourned.
