Council authorizes Armstrong Company to move Irondale library to new location

The Irondale City Council authorized a contract with Armstrong Company to perform the relocation of the Irondale Public Library, approving an amount not to exceed $17,874.15 for professional moving services.
City staff said the vendor specializes in library moves, including packaging, boxing and maintaining Dewey Decimal organization so librarians can resume services more quickly. Officials said using a professional mover reduces the need to tie up public-works crews and lets library staff focus on opening the new facility.
A city official said the library's old location will close on Aug. 12 and staff will transition to the new facility; the new library will not open for full service immediately so staff can complete setup and work out operational kinks.
The contract was included on the consent agenda and approved by the council without recorded opposition.
