The Ozark City Council on Aug. 5 unanimously approved a series of routine and project measures, including awarding a $618,115.35 street-paving contract to Wiregrass Construction and accepting a $150,000 Growing Alabama funding agreement from the Alabama Department of Commerce.
The actions, taken during the council’s regular meeting at Ozark City Hall, also included adoption of the fiscal year 2026 transportation plan, approval of an updated use agreement between the city and Ozark City School Systems for the batting cages at Eagle Stadium, confirmation of two weed-lien costs, and the appointment of election officials for the Aug. 26, 2025 municipal election. The council set a public hearing for Aug. 19 at 5 p.m. to consider declaring additional properties public nuisances.
The council voted to award the street-paving contract to Wiregrass Construction “in the amount of $618,115.35,” according to the motion on the record; the motion passed unanimously. Council members then voted to authorize the mayor to execute the contract.
Council members approved a Growing Alabama funding agreement with the Alabama Department of Commerce in the amount of $150,000 and authorized the mayor to execute the agreement. The motion passed unanimously.
The council approved an updated use agreement for Eagle Stadium and its batting cages with Ozark City School Systems and adopted the city’s transportation plan for fiscal year 2026; both were approved by unanimous vote.
On administrative items, the council confirmed the appointment of election workers for the Aug. 26, 2025 election; the clerk read a list of named inspectors and clerks into the record. The council also introduced and passed a resolution confirming the cost of weed-lien work: $450 for a parcel on Bermuda Street and $525 for a parcel on Church Street (parcel number 2606083100601), with the resolution recorded as adopted.
The council set a public hearing for Aug. 19 at 5 p.m. to consider declaring additional properties public nuisances, listing 694 Dees Road and 1394 South Union Avenue among the addresses to be considered.
During final comments, Councilman Jackson suggested posting the poll-worker list on the city website so residents can see who is serving; Councilwoman Harlow urged residents to “shop local” and to be careful on roads for the first day of school. No member voiced opposition to the measures approved that evening.
Next steps: contracts and agreements approved by motion were authorized for the mayor’s signature; the public hearing on nuisance properties will be held Aug. 19 at 5 p.m. at Ozark City Hall.
