The board voted 5-0 to reassign two recently developed residential areas, Vintners Park and Tatum Rockport, from Fortville Elementary School to McCordsville Elementary School.
District staff presented capacity and enrollment numbers for the three elementary schools (capacities shown as roughly 800, 750 and 750, for a combined K-4 capacity of about 2,300). Current K-4 enrollment was reported as 1,897. Staff said Fortville Elementary has been growing faster than the other two schools and the proposed small reassignment would help balance enrollments as new housing developments come online. The presenter said both Vintners Park and Tatum Rockport are relatively new subdivisions that currently produce few district elementary students (presenter reported a total of seven students from the two areas, none currently elementary-aged) and that shifting those addresses to McCordsville would have minimal immediate disruption while improving long-term balance.
The presenter said the district expects roughly 250-275 additional students this year and described the district's goal of minimizing redistricting; trustees noted the timing minimizes impact on current elementary families. Kelly Freeman moved the reassignment; Chad seconded and the motion carried 5-0.
