Parks officials detail Blue Cypress upgrades: 12-hole golf, new pool, pier repairs and extended senior swim

Daniel Piazza, a spokesperson with the Parks and Recreation Division, briefed District 1 residents at an Arlington town-hall about recent and planned park improvements in the area.

Piazza said Blue Cypress Park’s golf course recently grew to 12 holes with three added holes, and the park added a new pool this summer that drew thousands of swimmers. "Blue Cypress as a whole is certainly becoming one of our more destination regional parks," Piazza said.

He said senior swim hours at Blue Cypress were extended and staffed Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon through Sept. 19, and the park’s fishing pier is undergoing renovation with a hoped-for September completion. Piazzo (sic) also said the park’s community center has been renovated and houses the department’s aquatics headquarters.

Piazza listed other recent work in District 1: new fitness equipment and restroom upgrades at Victory Park, repaired walkway and deck at Reedy Point Preserve, and a new playground and a planned pavilion at Blue Cypress with a target start of early 2026. He said the pavilion will be located near the site of the former playground, between the pickleball and tennis courts.

When asked about lights for night play at the courts, Piazza said staff are exploring a solar-lighting option and will follow up with residents. On fencing around playgrounds, he said fences are generally added when playgrounds sit close to a busy road, and staff would review Blue Cypress’s layout with park planning.
