Neighbors urge expedited signal and compatibility review for proposed Collier/South Lamar development

A representative of the Lyric condominiums told the Austin Planning Commission that two nearby developments could be completed before a planned traffic signal at Collier and South Lamar is installed, raising safety concerns for residents.

"Our major concern is that that light is not completed in time for the completion of these 2 developments," the speaker said, citing a recent four-car crash at the intersection. The representative said the signal had previously been scheduled for completion around 2026 but that current timelines referenced in the meeting record appeared later.

The speaker also asked the commission to consider making 1504 Collier a triggering property for a community compatibility study because the property has more than four units and could be affected by a neighboring development proposed to build to a 90-foot edge. The Lyric representative thanked applicant Leah Bojo and Integral Care for engagement with the neighborhood and said some mitigations were already under discussion.
