The Los Angeles City Council on June 6 voted to confirm Patricia Franco to the Board of Civil Service Commissioners for a term ending June 30, 2001.
Councilmember Goldberg moved the appointment and members offered brief remarks in support. One councilmember said Franco's experience in the San Fernando Valley working with at-risk youth and as founder of the San Fernando Valley Opportunity Through Education Fund would be an asset to the commission. The council approved the appointment on a voice roll call of 11 ayes.
Franco thanked the council following the vote.
Why it matters: The Civil Service Commission oversees employment and personnel matters for city employees; the appointment fills a council-confirmed vacancy through mid-2001.
Next steps: Patricia Franco will assume duties on the Board of Civil Service Commissioners for the designated term.
