Planning commission elects Christie Joy chair, Maribel Cruz vice chair; approves consent agenda

The Lincoln-Lancaster County Planning Commission elected Christie Joy to a two-year term as chair and Maribel Cruz to a two-year term as vice chair during its Aug. 20, 2025 meeting. Commissioners approved both elections by voice vote and Joy thanked the commission and staff after her election.

The commission also approved the minutes of its Aug. 6, 2025 regular meeting and approved the consent agenda by a 7–0 vote. Staff read the consent items into the record; the items included a set of land-use and zoning matters listed as: comprehensive plan amendment 25003 (future land use change at South 90th Street and Rokeby Road), change of zone 25017 (approximately 45.83 acres from AG to R‑5 PUD at South 90th Street and Rokeby Road), annexation 25004 (approximately 8.56 acres near NW 40th Street and West Vine Street), special permit 25019A (Messman ADU — final action — property at 1919/400 Southwest 70 Second Street) and use permit 25005 (allowing up to 15,000 square feet of commercial floor area on a 2.7-acre R‑3 site near South 70 Fifth Street and Archer Place). Staff noted the special permit 25019A is a final action of the commission and that appeals to final action items must be filed with the clerk within 14 days.

The commission’s consent-agenda motion carried 7–0; voting participants recorded during roll call included Paul, Cruz, Edens, Pfeiff, Joy, Ronenberg and Ryman. No members of the public requested separate hearings on the consent items during the call for speakers.

After the votes, commissioners offered brief remarks thanking outgoing leaders and staff for their work. The meeting proceeded to public hearings, including a separate item on a reasonable-accommodation request for an Oxford House at 1007 South Sixteenth Street, which the commission later approved.
