Three new officers sworn into Dickinson Police Department

Officer Jaden Schmidt, a Dickinson native who graduated from the University of Mary with a bachelor’s in psychology and a minor in criminal justice, was hired Nov. 24, 2024, graduated from the North Dakota Law Enforcement Training Academy in April 2025 and completed field training. Officer Connor Wood, a native of Bolton, England, was hired in January 2025 and completed academy training in April 2025 and is nearing completion of field training. Officer Eric Michel, previously a law enforcement officer in Georgia, was hired in March 2025, completed reciprocity training and finished field training.
Commission President Decker administered the oath of office; Chief Ciani noted the department had performed earlier administrative oaths when badges and limited licenses were issued. Each officer offered brief remarks of thanks to the city and department before taking their seats on patrol.
Chief Ciani and the commission welcomed the officers and noted they add to department manpower following a period of hiring; the department reported field training completions and staffing increases in its quarterly report presented the same evening.
Ending: The officers were introduced publicly and their oaths were recorded in the meeting minutes; they will continue routine field assignments under departmental supervision.
