Board approves consent agenda; administrators report construction progress, athletic-field bid and scheduling reminders

The Wall Township Board of Education approved the consent agenda by roll call at its Aug. 19 public meeting. The motion to approve was made by Ms. DiGiovanni and seconded by Ms. Adams; the board recorded an affirmative roll call and the meeting adjourned.

In reports preceding the vote, Board President Thomas Malouf and Superintendent Dr. Handerhan thanked custodial, operations and technology staff for summer work readying buildings for September. Malouf said the district received a bid for the athletic fields and track and expects work to start in the coming months. Dr. Handerhan said most renovation projects are on schedule for substantial completion by the opening of school; he said the high-school auditorium is expected to be completed this fall but not in time for the start of classes.

Administrators reminded parents to complete annual forms in the Genesis parent portal so students can view schedules — high-school schedules had been posted the afternoon of the meeting and K8 schedules and classroom assignments were said to be forthcoming. The district also held new-staff orientation and kindergarten orientation is scheduled for next week, officials said.

During the superintendents remarks, he addressed a public concern about a bus-driver job posting on Indeed that had included problematic language; he said the posting was amended shortly after the district was notified and reiterated that all employees undergo fingerprinting and background checks.

The board did not discuss or vote separately on construction contracts, referendum financing or personnel at the meeting beyond the consent-agenda approval; additional details about bid awards were not provided on the agenda packet.
