Parents press board on full-day primary program, class rank and a bus-driver posting; superintendent says posting was corrected

Leah Bibby, who said her children attend Central School, asked whether the district had investigated state grant funding to start full-day primary programs with before- and after-care, pointing to neighboring districts that have expanded similar offerings. The board did not provide an immediate answer; an administrator at the meeting said someone would follow up with Bibby.
Colleen McCormick said she was alarmed by a Wall Township Public School District bus-driver job posting on the recruiting site Indeed that included a line encouraging people with criminal records to apply. She said she believed the post had been amended after community complaint. Superintendent Dr. Handerhan responded during his report that the posting contained an error, that it was revised after being brought to district attention and that all district employees undergo fingerprinting and background checks.
McCormick also urged the board to reconsider the decision to eliminate class rank at Wall High School, arguing that rank recognizes academic effort and motivates students. She said the district still recognizes valedictorian and salutatorian by GPA but asked why other top finishers would not be acknowledged.
Other public commenters raised financial and transparency concerns, including questions about Health & Finance (F&F) minutes, large health-benefit budgets and recent personnel changes. Betsy Cross criticized the lack of attachments to F&F minutes, named Thomas Buffa as the F&F chair in minutes and asked for more detail in future postings. Leah Bibby later noted that two open claims remain pending related to the districtinstruction assignments for a special subject taught by a non-licensed instructor.
No board action addressing the substantive requests was taken at the meeting; the items were presented during public comment and will require follow-up by district staff or formal agenda items to be scheduled for board consideration.
