Resident asks Cottage Grove to create code enforcement rule for hazardous dead trees

Diane Anderson, a Cottage Grove resident of 9424 Jergen Place South, told the City Council at the Aug. 6 meeting she has repeatedly notified city staff about a neighbor's dead trees and said the trees pose a safety hazard to people and property.
"I'm imploring the city to please consider making a code enforcement for people to take down dead trees," Anderson said, describing repeated storm damage and a lack of enforcement to compel removal. She said she had called Samantha Drury about the issue twice and that the trees continued to fall.
A council member responded that, because Anderson provided contact information and has already spoken with Samantha Drury, staff would follow up on the issue. Anderson was present to show the site to council members and asked officials to inspect the yard.
No new ordinance or code change was proposed or voted on during the meeting. The city's next steps were limited to staff follow‑up and a possible inspection or enforcement action if city code allows.
