Summary
The Ohio Auditor of State’s office presented Fairfield Union Local School District with the Auditor of State Award Aug. 18, recognizing a clean financial audit and timely reporting; Treasurer Courtney Roberts and her finance team were singled out for leadership.
Scott Brown, central Ohio liaison for the Ohio Auditor of State, presented the Auditor of State Award to the Fairfield Union Local School District during the board’s Aug. 18 meeting.
The award recognizes local governments and school districts that complete their financial audit without findings, file required financial reports by statutory deadlines and comply with generally accepted accounting principles. Brown said the award places the district in the top 10% of audited entities statewide.
“The auditor of state award is presented to local governments and school districts upon the completion of financial audit that meet the following criteria defined as a clean audit report,” Brown said. He specifically praised Treasurer Courtney Roberts and the district’s finance staff for “outstanding leadership and commitment to fiscal integrity.”
Board President (name recorded in the meeting as the presiding officer) and Treasurer Roberts accepted the recognition and invited Brown and the treasurer’s office staff for a photograph at the front of the meeting room. Roberts thanked auditors and finance staff and said the district has focused on processes and controls to ensure taxpayer funds are used appropriately.
The presentation included a brief account of the award criteria as described by the auditor’s office: timely filing via the Henkel system, no findings for recovery, no material citations or material weaknesses and compliance with uniform guidance where applicable. Brown emphasized the award reflects both staff work and the board’s stewardship.
No board action or vote was required to accept the award; the presentation was followed by brief remarks of appreciation from district leaders and the auditor.
The district will continue routine financial oversight through its treasurer’s office; the presentation did not include new fiscal policy actions or budgetary changes.
