The board voted to rescind a previously adopted vote on noise-ordinance amendments and to take the issue back for broader community review.
Background and action: At the previous special meeting the board had taken action on noise-ordinance amendments; because the prior action was not unanimous the board determined a second vote was required. On Aug. 18 the board voted to rescind the earlier action.
Committee and process: Commissioners discussed forming a review committee of community members to advise on ordinance revisions. The working structure agreed in discussion calls for each commissioner to nominate up to three residents from their districts plus three at-large appointments, producing a committee of up to 18 members; staff will accept nominations and return a roster for formal appointment at the next regular meeting. The board also asked that initial town-hall meetings across the county be scheduled to gather community feedback; staff will advertise town-hall dates and accept nominations for committee seats in time for appointment at the Sept. 2 meeting.
Why it mattered: Noise rules have generated countywide attention; commissioners and members of the public expressed strong views on both property rights and quality-of-life enforcement. The rescind and committee approach aims to broaden citizen deliberation and produce recommendations the board can consider in a future ordinance revision.
Outcome: Motion to rescind the prior vote carried; staff directed to advertise town halls and solicit committee nominations to present a formal committee roster for board action at the next meeting.
