The Metropolitan Area Planning Commission voted to approve an in‑lieu fee in place of on‑site sidewalk construction for a property at 903 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
John Easley of Associated Engineering presented the request on behalf of the property owners, saying the existing right‑of‑way and roadway configuration made on‑site sidewalk construction nonessential. "I'm John Easley with Associated Engineering on behalf of the owners asking for a sidewalk payment for, 903 Martin Luther King Boulevard," Easley said.
Planning staff reviewed the request and recommended accepting the in‑lieu fee. Commissioners confirmed the request was an "in lieu of" payment rather than a full waiver, asked a question about typical submittal details (square footage and calculations) and then voted to approve the fee.
Outcome: Commission approval allows the applicant to pay the in‑lieu fee; staff will record conditions and ensure the payment follows city procedures for pedestrian improvements.
