Board agrees to annex two Dorchester County parcels into Town of Somerville for 911 coverage

The Dorchester School District Two board voted Aug. 11 to agree to annex two parcels located between Greenway Boulevard and the Summerville High School ball field into the Town of Somerville to streamline 911 emergency response.
Rhonda Grice, presenting for the county/planning staff, said staff identified two connected parcels totaling about a little over 5.5 acres adjacent to the Berlin G. Meyer Parkway. The parcels are currently under Dorchester County jurisdiction; county staff requested annexation so that the town's 911 response areas would be contiguous with surrounding jurisdiction. Grice said that aside from the change in municipal jurisdiction, the district would retain ownership of the land.
Board member Bates moved the motion, seconded by board member King; the motion carried 7–0.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the map color-coding and confirmed that the annexation would not convey additional land or facilities beyond the jurisdictional change. The board approved the agreement to annex the parcels into the Town of Somerville.
