The Willis Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously to ratify an agreement with The Bays Firm for legal services and heard staff updates that water service at Calfee Middle School has been restored and that work on the high school parking lots will be largely complete before the first day of classes.
Board members approved the legal-services agreement by a 5-0 vote after a motion made by Mister Carson and seconded by Mister Williams. The board did not record individual roll-call votes in the transcript; the chair announced the tally as five in favor and none opposed.
Board discussion included a status report on a water outage at Calfee Middle School. A district speaker said Willis ISD and the city of Conroe coordinated inspections after water was restored Thursday morning; city and county fire marshals and building officials performed final building and fire inspections. The district reported the inspections identified three to four minor corrections requested by the county fire marshal that staff said would be completed before school opens.
District staff also reported progress on construction at the high school. The contractor has obtained permits and will pour four parking lots; staff said three of those lots will be finished, striped and signed for use on the first day of school, with the fourth expected to open by Friday after school starts or by the following Monday at the latest. The district noted the contractor has been working extended hours to meet the schedule despite recent rain.
Superintendent-level remarks thanked community partners, including the Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce and a local church that helped set up district facilities.
Board members scheduled a regular meeting for Aug. 20 that will include a Lone Star governance workshop at 4:30 p.m., a public meeting on the proposed 2025โ26 budget, and the regular board meeting beginning at 5:30 p.m.
No public comments were recorded during the portion of the transcript provided.
