Johnson County authorizes judge to sign Purdue participation forms and permits attorneys to vote on bankruptcy plan

Johnson County Commissioners Court on Aug. 11 authorized two related actions in the county's opioid litigation after executive-session consultations with counsel.
Following executive-session consideration under Texas Government Code §551.071, the court voted unanimously to authorize County Judge Monk to execute settlement participation and release forms regarding settlement offers from Purdue Pharma that are part of the Texas opioid multidistrict litigation. The motion was made by Commissioner Howell and seconded by Commissioner White.
The court then voted, again unanimously, to authorize the county's attorneys to cast votes to accept the proposed Purdue Pharma bankruptcy plan. That motion was also made by Commissioner Howell and seconded by Commissioner White.
Court members stated the votes followed discussion with counsel in executive session and were recorded on the public minutes as formal authorizations. No additional terms or settlement amounts were disclosed on the record during open session.
Ending: County counsel will proceed consistent with the court's authorizations; the county judge and designated attorneys will execute documents and cast votes as allowed under the authorizations recorded on Aug. 11.
