Greene County Legislature approves Axon camera system, school agreements and paramedic training award (as amended)

The Greene County Legislature on Aug. 6 approved a set of measures including replacing the county’s self-hosted ProVision body- and in-car camera system with an Axon cloud-based platform, authorizing a series of agreements between the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and local school districts, and establishing a paramedic training award with amendments to its eligibility and service-obligation language.

Camera procurement and evidence-handling changes

Sheriff’s Office officials described the current system as self-hosted and said ProVision no longer supports that platform. The sheriff told legislators that upgrading the existing system’s service would cost about $209,950 and that moving to Axon would provide cloud storage, built-in redaction tools for FOIL requests and automatic case-sharing features for the district attorney.

"Axon would provide that and make it much easier," the sheriff said, describing faster discovery and the ability to share categorized case links directly with prosecutors. The sheriff also noted Axon’s forward-facing cameras include license-plate-recognition capability; the department currently pays roughly $18,000 per standalone LPR unit for a small number of cars and expects Axon would put LPR capability into every unit under the new platform.

Officials described additional operational savings: local installers would be able to handle camera installs rather than flying technical staff from the vendor’s out-of-state technicians, and Axon’s lease program includes periodic equipment replacement under the term.
