The Thompson School District R-2J board on Aug. 6 agreed to adjust its October 2025 meeting schedule after discovering the previously planned date conflicted with Yom Kippur.
Board members discussed options including moving the meeting earlier in the same week (Sept. 30–Oct. 2), shifting to the following week (Oct. 8), or scheduling a different day that week. Trustees settled on Monday, Oct. 6, to keep meetings roughly evenly spaced and to give staff adequate time to prepare materials and distribute the agenda by the district deadline.
Board members noted the district must consider meeting start times when events overlap with religious observances; one trustee specifically raised the difficulty of starting meetings late on a holy day evening. No formal vote was recorded in the study-session transcript; trustees reached consensus to move the meeting to Oct. 6 and the board president said staff would confirm calendar details for the Aug. 20 agenda.
