Alamosa City Council recognizes Hope in the Valley on first anniversary

The Alamosa City Council read a proclamation Tuesday recognizing Hope in the Valley on its one-year anniversary and received brief remarks from organizational representatives about recovery-focused services for the region.
Councilor Carson read the proclamation, which credited Hope in the Valley with providing treatment, removing barriers to care and collaborating with local schools, courts, law enforcement and social-service agencies. The proclamation named several organizational leaders who the council recognized for their roles in launching the center.
A Hope in the Valley representative thanked the city and described the center's community work. "For a long time, recovery was individualit kinda seemed like it was underground," the representative said, adding that the center aims to shift systems so people do not have to face recovery alone.
The organization announced an "all recovery" meeting beginning Tuesday, Aug. 12, intended to include a range of mutual-support groups and family supports, and emphasized outreach to family members and friends of people with substance-use disorders.
Councilors praised the center's first year, recounted the positive turnout for its anniversary event and encouraged continuing community support. The council presented the proclamation to the Hope in the Valley representatives; the item was ceremonial and required no council vote.
